Hi – great website you have here. I love reading sites about religion – they are so educational. Thank you for having this one. The internet can be a real blessing, even though some people don’t realize that and use it badly. I am always interested in reading online about spiritual thoughts and beliefs and your site is very thought-provoking. I don’t have time to read everything right now, I found this site when looking for something else on beliefnet.com, but I’ve bookmarked your homepage and will visit again soon to see the latest news. What is your preferred translation of the Bible? I think they are all good, don’t really have a preferred one myself. I have a site with scripture and related art on it. I have a list of the visitors’ countries, (just visiting, not those who have taken the quiz) and in the last year they have come from 208 different countries/territories (there are 195 countries and 61 territories I think).

Here are the top ten by % of visitors – most are from the USA as you’ll see.

16.9% United Kingdom
3.7% Canada
2.9% India
2.6% Australia
2.4% Philippines
1.4% South Africa
1.0% Jamaica
0.9% New Zealand
0.8% Singapore

Yes, one of the passages that God has been highlighting to me is:

Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,

yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.

I think that means that we should not trust in our economy, or in the nations economy, but in God alone.

That is a huge accomplishment. I can’t even fathom. Do you have a list of all the countries that are represented by those visitors? that would be interesting.

Bible quizzing has had quite explosive growth since it’s start in Kansas City in the ’40s.

Maybe they were just frustrated because they didn’t score 100%

They bring up an interesting point. The multitude of translations of the Bible will naturally lead one to ask: “OK, which one is the ‘right’ Bible?

The Christian doctrine of inerrancy is not based on any one translation, but on the assurance that the original documents were inspired by God.

The Oneness Pentecostals do… they have about 24 million followers and are one of the main 3 groups of Pentecostalism, so it’s by no means a small group – though I suppose they might not be as common where you are.

I don’t know of anyone who thinks that speaking with tongues has anything to do with salvation. I keep hearing this arugument over and over and it seems to be contrived to gain the support of the reader toward the author’s point of view. In fact, none of the main Pentecostal or Spirit filled denominations teach this doctrine. There may be some obscure splinter groups who teach this, but certainly not the great majority.

1 Corinthians 14 – In this chapter the apostle directs them about the use of their spiritual gifts, preferring those that are best and fitted to do the greatest good. He begins with advising them of all spiritual gifts to prefer prophesying, and shows that this is much better than speaking with tongues (1Co 14:1-5). He goes on to show them how unprofitable the speaking of foreign languages is, and useless to the church; it is like piping in one tone, like sounding a trumpet without any certain note, like talking gibberish; whereas gifts should be used for the good of the church (1Co 14:6-14). This clearly suggests that speaking in tongues is not necessary for salvation, otherwise Paul would have placed greater importance on them.
